Villa de Leyva - Get your prayer on

Villa de Leyva is a quaint Colombian town nestled in the heart of Colombia about 3 hours north of Bogota yet world's away from the bussle. The town has one of the largest squares in Colombia, where festivals are plentiful and religion is a big focus. There are 2 large houses, one for the preists and one for the nuns. During the religious festival, you go to chuch, then join in a procession through the copplestone streets to the house of the Virgin Mary. Through the entire walk, I might have chanted Hail Mary in Spanish about 100 times.

This area is up and coming for adventure travel. What I did and would recommend is renting a bike and take the tour from town. It is fun to stop at all these little places, talk to the people, and have fun.

Word of Advice: Bike rentals are not that great. I would have loved to rent a bike and take it to the beautiful lagoon, but it is best to keep the rides short on this trip.

Top 10 must do in Villa de Leyva

1. Eat Besitos de Novio - and kiss your boyfriend at the same time (if you have one)

3. Hike to the top of el Santo the statue of Jesus above town
4. Visit at least one of the churches
5. Spend a spa day at the hotel Duruelo and get a great massage
6. Hike 2-3 hours to Santuario de Flora y Fauna (better known as the garden of eden)
7. Watch the town standstill as the rain waters turn the streets into rivers
8. Hitch-hike in a dump truck
